Overview

This course is defensive by design. Learners study how attacks and online harms work from the target's side of the table โ€” so they can spot them, block them, and help others recover. Every module pairs short concept sessions with hands-on labs, and threads in a practical way to use an AI assistant to learn faster and work smarter. Format is ~40% concept, ~60% hands-on. Each session ends with a lab you complete on your own devices in a safe, self-directed way.

This is a protection-and-response course. Tools are used only on your own accounts, devices, and network, or on intentionally provided practice data. We study attacker and abuser techniques at the awareness level โ€” enough to recognise and defend against them โ€” not to deploy them against anyone. Testing systems, accounts, or people without explicit permission is illegal and outside the scope of this program.

Learning Outcome

Audit your exposure, read network traffic, recognise scams instantly, harden your phone, and file a cybercrime complaint correctly. You don't need a separate "AI course" โ€” in each module you'll practise a specific, realistic way to put an AI assistant to work while learning to double-check its answers instead of trusting them blindly.

Syllabus

Goal: Build the mental model of who attacks, why, and what "your attack surface" means โ€” before touching any tool.

  • CIA triad: confidentiality, integrity, availability
  • Threat actors & motives: scammers, harassers, opportunists
  • The attack lifecycle, in plain language
  • What "attack surface" and "digital footprint" mean
Hands-on Lab
Map every account, device, and login you own Rate each by "what happens if this is lost?" Set up a safe practice environment Build your personal Attack-Surface Map
AI Co-Pilot
Ask an AI assistant to interview you and turn your answers into a structured risk table โ€” then verify nothing sensitive was miscategorised.

Goal: Discover where your data has already leaked and rebuild your accounts on strong foundations.

  • How data breaches happen & why reuse is fatal
  • Passphrases vs passwords; password managers
  • MFA/2FA types โ€” app, key, SMS trade-offs
Hands-on Lab
Have I Been Pwned: check emails & numbers Read a breach entry & decide what to rotate Set up a manager + enable MFA everywhere Run your own emails through Have I Been Pwned
AI Co-Pilot
Paste a breach summary and have AI explain in plain terms what was exposed and your priority actions โ€” cross-checking against the official breach description.

Goal: Recognise a fake page or manipulative message in seconds โ€” the single most valuable everyday skill.

  • How credential-harvesting and fake-login kits work (awareness of tools like Zphisher / CamPhish as threats)
  • Why a "camera / permission" prompt can be a trap
  • Urgency, authority & other manipulation levers
Hands-on Lab
URL & domain inspection; look-alike detection Email header & sender basics PhishTank: study real reported samples Analyse a set of real reported phishing samples
AI Co-Pilot
Feed a suspicious message to an AI assistant to flag red flags and explain the deception โ€” while learning why you must never open links it "confirms" as safe without your own checks.

Goal: Understand what apps on your phone can see and reach โ€” and cut them back to what's necessary.

  • App permissions & why camera/mic/location matter
  • Data exposure & leaky app behaviours
  • Safe install habits & sideloading risks
Hands-on Lab
BeVigil: scan apps & review exposure findings Audit and revoke risky permissions Interpret a mobile-security report Use BeVigil to review apps you rely on
AI Co-Pilot
Have AI summarise a BeVigil finding into "what this means for me" language and a prioritised fix list โ€” verifying the severity against the source report.

Goal: Stop treating the network as magic โ€” capture real traffic and read what your own devices are saying.

  • Packets, protocols, ports; the TCP/IP idea
  • HTTP vs HTTPS โ€” why encryption matters
  • What plaintext data leaks look like
Hands-on Lab
Wireshark: capture, filter, follow a stream Display filters for DNS, HTTP, TLS Spot unencrypted vs encrypted sessions Capture your own traffic while browsing
AI Co-Pilot
Paste a puzzling packet or filter question to an AI assistant for a plain-English breakdown, then confirm it against Wireshark's own output.

Goal: Understand common online-abuse techniques so you can protect a phone number and shut down floods of spam.

  • How SMS/call flooding & spam abuse work (tools like TBomb studied as threats to recognise)
  • Doxxing basics & reducing public exposure
  • Number hygiene & separating identities
Hands-on Lab
Carrier/OS blocking & spam-filter setup Report flooding to your telecom provider Lock down what your number is linked to Harden your phone: configure spam filters
AI Co-Pilot
Use AI to draft a clear provider-complaint message and a step-by-step incident checklist you can follow calmly under pressure.

Goal: Know exactly what to do โ€” and help others do it โ€” when someone is scammed, hacked, or targeted.

  • Evidence preservation: screenshots, logs, timelines
  • What counts as a cybercrime & where to report
  • Supporting a distressed victim safely
Hands-on Lab
cybercrime.gov.in: the reporting workflow StopNCII: non-consensual image takedown Draft a clear, complete complaint Walk a mock case end to end
AI Co-Pilot
Have AI organise messy incident notes into a clean chronological statement for a complaint โ€” you review every fact before it's submitted anywhere.

Goal: Turn a general AI assistant into a reliable learning-and-triage partner โ€” and learn its limits.

  • Good prompting for security explanations
  • Hallucinations & why you always verify
  • What you should never paste into an AI tool
Hands-on Lab
Triage a suspicious email with AI assistance Explain logs, packets & jargon on demand Draft reports, checklists & study notes Build your own reusable prompt pack
AI Co-Pilot
This module is the co-pilot โ€” you finish with a personal, tested toolkit you'll keep using well beyond the course.

Goal: Prove the whole course landed by assessing and presenting your own real-world defensive posture.

  • Deliverable: A short before/after posture report
  • Evidence: MFA on, permissions cut, spam blocked
  • A 90-day personal hardening roadmap
Capstone Assessment
Correct use of each tool covered Quality of reasoning, not jargon A working, verified AI prompt pack

Present your posture report: what you found, what you fixed, and what you'll do next โ€” with your AI co-pilot pack attached as an appendix.

What Our Students Say

"

I went from knowing nothing about cybersecurity to confidently spotting phishing emails and securing all my accounts. The hands-on labs with real tools like Wireshark and BeVigil made everything click instantly.

Priya Naik Student, Mapusa
"

The Wireshark module was absolutely eye-opening โ€” I could finally see what my phone was actually sending. This is essential knowledge for anyone who uses the internet today, not just IT people.

Rohan Desai Small Business Owner, Panjim
"

I used the cybercrime reporting skills from this course to help a friend who was being harassed online. The StopNCII and evidence preservation modules give you practical skills that actually matter in real life.
